Declan Shalvey’s CUCHULAIN
Back at C2E2, I had the pleasure of getting a sketch of the Irish legend, CUCHULAIN, from Irish native Declan Shalvey. So, like all the original arts that I owns, I’m taking some time to color it.

A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending C2E2. What a crazy fun show! One of the highlights, for sure, was meeting Samnees and getting a SPIRIT sketch from Chris.
Chris has said before that his warmup and con sketches are a little different from his interior pages. He fills in more space, and leaves less up to the eye so that the colorist doesn’t have to make decisions about all the implied lines. I have often wondered what it would be like to try to apply a similar high contrast coloring style the high contrast con sketch style of drawing. This is my attempt.
Thanks Chris, and keep up the brilliant work.
A while ago on his blog, twartist, Dave Stokes, put up a wonderful JOHNNY RECON piece. It took me a while to get it all punched up, and Mitch, JOHNNY RECON creator, to collaborate on final effects, but this is what we came up with. Tried some new things, and really had a blast. I think I could stand to color more of Dave’s stuff, what do you guys think?
SUMMIT CITY CON was so incredibly terrific, I cannot say enough good things about it. One of the best parts for me, as a fan, was getting a Dave Wachter GREEN HORNET sketch (also, you should be reading his webstrip, GUNS OF SHADOW VALLEY). The above is a version that I colored, the below is a scan of the lusciously illustrated original. Thanks, Dave!
